CORAL HULL: POINT-BLANK-POOR
34. A Visit From The Salvos

Could you help me budget on $30 a week?
God knows.
I should be managing on this & it's
no-ones fault but my own
& as I've already
told you (many times before)
I am a complete imbecile.
So to continue to treat me as such.

The old bloke from the Salvos
who came to visit
said 'A fridge is a luxury in this country.
Hang up a hessian bag
on the verandah &
hose it down
& let the wind blow through it.'
I thought, I'll hose
you down, you old fool.

You mean that you can't feed my dogs,
because I'm too poor to have dogs.
Well it's not the dog's fault.
They get hungry too.
Even though they don't have souls.
Even though the food should go to people first.
God knows why
dogs are a luxury & so is a car,
even if it hasn't been running for years.

'It's mere presence is a luxury you can't afford my dear.'
Well, I wish the rapists would pay for my cab fares home.
Then I wouldn't need to drive myself & dogs everywhere.
