78. as your big ship of curses draws out from the quay
as your big ship of curses draws out from the quay, a pin-drop trickle escapes the engine room, there is a sign of a leak down below the bunkers, a sharp creaking from hidden icefloes at night, in frozen uncharted waters, a rough voyage is predicted, everyone watched me go down, to heave & roll with my poisonous cargo, as i sailed far away, dispersing like a cloud off the edge of the world, you waved from the wharf & the rocks by the lighthouse, you held out your handkerchief & turned your back, you did not see the final departure, at this stage i am out on a dark stormy sea, lifted before the journey of the wind, you will never see my ruined cargo in this state of ill repair, i am sailing away to ascertain the damage, memories of lighthouses are very painful, i am trying to swim to an unknown shore |
