95. the accident at warwick farm, an inappropriate laughing experience

i was told by mum to 'soldier on', after the car crash at warwick farm, we were late to work, for the afternoon shift, at the lidcombe plastics factory, before leaving the accident scene, i behaved inappropriately by laughing at the woman that had smashed into us from behind, her body was slouched over the steering wheel, her face floating in windscreen glass, this brought on a hysterical mood in me, i was quickly pushed off in the direction of the train station, mum frightened of being late said, 'get to work as fast as you can & tell them what has happened!', she was left behind on the highway, to deal with the towtruck drivers & police, in the centre of a mounting traffic jam, i moved off- giddily & felt very ill on warwick farm platform, i had to walk half a kilometre to get there, but in the end, i made it safely into the factory, but later collapsed whilst packing yogurt cartons into boxes on a big machine, i was told by the supervisor, who was scared of a compensation claim, to 'go directly to the hospital', & that i 'shouldn't have come in to work', once in the surgery, a nurse said that i was in shock & had sustained minor neck injuries, i was sent home loaded to the eyeballs with pain killers & wearing a temporary brace, mum was angry that i hadn't completed the shift, but you can't please everyone, i used to go wherever i was told to, i was a working class shit kicker, a soldier of plastics & passivity, sent to war on myself
