The Grey Dog [Modern Proverb]

She said, "since I found out that everything he wanted of me, he is also attempting to get from other women, the situation has changed. What was once sacred and beautiful has suddenly been cheapened. There is pain in my heart, where once I felt desire is now sickness."

The wise one replied, "that is because you have allowed yourself to feast on scraps. You have accepted the trash of other women and it has made your heart sick. You saw the grey dog as sacred," she said, "because you see the sacred in all things.

But he is just another a grey dog, sniffing around the garbage bins. There he will consider himself lucky enough to knock one or two over, whereupon he will gobble down those scraps and momentarily licking his lips.

He injests those scraps and in doing so, he has only scraps to offer in return. He cannot see you shining, while he is arse up in the alley. Learn from the women who do not accept the scraps. They are the wise ones who put the garbage out and close the door to their hearts behind them.

While he sniffs around trash, he will become the trash, that the wise women leave out on the streets. While you sniff, you will become the scraps you accept. There are many grey dogs and many bins. Do you really want to pick that trash up and bring it into your house?"

"No, wise one," she said, "because when I think, of that grey dog now, I feel only repulsion. The wise woman turned to her, who was full of grief and sufferance. "You are repulsed, but be thankful for that gift, that you have been given by the grey dog today, even though it fills your heart with pain.

Embrace your repulsion, as much as your light and all will come to pass, into the loving hands of love. Feel sympathy for the grey dog and be friendly, but do not let him enter the house of your heart again, for those who wait for the scraps, will be forever hungry."
