CORAL HULL: REED-SONG: EARLY POEMS: VOL 4
page-295 You give the appearance of not being found/ but i am
Afraid there is nothing worth finding/ except the
Empty bow of my searching/ tensed & tightly highly
Strung/ pointed at your two dimensions/ your cardboard
Cutout emotions/ the drawn out blandness of your skin/
I hold onto my bow/ shooting my arrows of trouble/
My sharp aim pinning you to a living tree/ where i
Can get a better look at you/ & so you are stuck to
The bark/ your ironed out shirt hitched up/ your
Trouser legs dangling tapping the trunk/ my arrows
Not strong enough to hold you up/ for my innocent
Inspection/ the thin shafts snap as you hit the
Ground/ coming gradually to your senses/ & being
Inwardly connected/ i fall beneath the living tree/
Now crushed beneath your clumbsy feet/ allowing
You to trample me/ but you have trod on me once to
Often/ & you give the appearance of not being found/
But now i am going to nail you down/ in your trouble.
