                                                                                                              page-153 THE LONELY ONES

Pondering through the midnight hours
Drifting through the April showers
Wondering if there'll be a day
When loving arms will stretch their way

A frightened pup needing affection
A sensitive heart needing protection
A troubled soul, a mind confused
Between being loved and being used

The days drift on
How time flies, tortured through
Those sad lonely eyes
No hellos, all goodbyes

But the byes aren't so good
When there's nowhere to run
Others seem to have someone

Before their names are even mentioned
They'll be wasting away on the old age pension
For all those lonely people out there
There's ten more the same
Sometime, somewhere.
