Behind the iron bars peer
Hurt, sad little brown eyes
Excited barking drowns
Out a puppys cries
Cries that are half
For freedom and
Cries that are half
For love
Not cries for the imprisoner
With a needle in thy glove
A small yelp is heard
Behind a closed door
And the pups sad little eyes
Are seen no more
Those tiny brown eyes
Neglected, unwanted
And thrown away
Have met their doom
In the boredom and gloom
And will be seen no more
Where the hopeful dogs pray.
