on rachel's lounge we talked about the time we
were shot at on the way home from a 16th birthday
party/ we tried to cope with the situation & to find
some solution/ i shook my head/ debbie who later
became a detective said 'this is a bad area'/ a car
had pulled up in the dark/ & someone in the back
seat stuck a gun barrel out the window/ i walked
up & touched it with my finger/ i said 'that's a toy
one from k-mart'/ the next thing the gun went off
& the bullet went through my hair on my right
shoulder/ we found out that it was young hoods
from up the road/ & the guy that had pulled the
trigger ended up in gaol for murder a few years
later/ it seemed like the days of riding our two
wheeler bikes along the wide streets/ our tyres
skidding through the puddles & days of throwing
rocks & of collecting stray puppies & kittens in
boxes thrown down the drainpipes were over/ i sat
on rachel's lounge not wanting to move & what i
remember talking about was my own survival
