CORAL HULL: PSYCHIC GUN
2. INFANT SEX EDUCATION

dad was drunk again/ he told us that when he was
in the bush/ he used to eat fruit called quandongs/
we said 'dad ate condoms'/ dad shook his head
'not condoms, fucking quandongs'/ during sex

education at primary school we watched the silly
movies of glowing green uteruses awash with
crimson every twenty eight days/ tadpole sperm
swimming up passageways towards the egg/ only

one sperm connected with it/ at question time my
hand was the first up/ i asked 'what happens to
the rest of the sperm?'/ a couple of the parents
laughed/ the teacher said 'they dissolve like a

disprin'/ at the end we got given a little green
book called 'guide to girlhood' that i hid from
my brothers & father/ meanwhile at home our
barbie & ken dolls continued to rape & bash one

another up/ & all the neighbourhood kids nibbled
at each others legs/ playing lifesaver & shark in
the clarkes rubber swimming pool/ often we
would make whirlpools/ some kids would jump

off the side with their costumes pulled down/
then mum yelled out from the window 'chris &
julie time to go home!'/ i didn't like it how they
kept stripping us in primary school & looking

down our cotton tails for ringworms/ their cold
hands on our hot little legs & arms/ debbie who
was never allowed out taught me about women
bleeding & i said 'no way you're lying' & rushed

home to ask mum/ sylvia was thrown over the
deputy principal's shoulders/ him patting her on
the bum calling her 'blue eyes'/ we discussed it
over jacks on the floorboards/ we didn't like it

but didn't know why/ we said that we wouldn't
let sylvia play jacks with us if she asked/ a lot of
kids were having a hard time at home/ the fidgiters,
low graders, out of controllers, talkers, gigglers &

other attention seekers/ during assembly they raised
the australian flag/ we sang 'god save the queen'/
the head principal said 'school attention! then,
stand at ease'/ debbie was giggling too much &

accidentally pissed all over her school port/ kids
pissed on the polished floorboards during winter
in infants when teachers wouldn't let them go to
the toilets/ i got into trouble for telling the class

that my brother dale had two dicks/ when he was
changed after being brought home from the royal
women's hospital/ i had mistaken his umbilical
cord for a second penis/ mum said 'you always

rushed in to look when dale was being changed'/
& this was the reason/ in first grade a squabble
broke out when paul mackay pulled chris rover's
new white singlet/ so our relief teacher stood red

haired freckle faced paul mackay (we called
them 'red-headed-rat-rooters') in front of the
class & pulled his school shorts right down
around his ankles/ so that he stood there frozen/

& we were all too shocked to laugh/ if i laughed
at home dad said 'get to your room' & i watched
tv from up the hallway/ whilst the rest of the
family watched it together/ he never told my

brothers to do it/ he always used to pretend to
get off the black vinyl lounge to come & hit me
& then sit back down after i had run away/ once
he got up because i looked at him too long/ it was

called 'when dad gets up' or 'when your father
gets home'/ i was the little slut/ the bad fuckwit
from the gutter/ mum was the professional slut
& i was the amateur slut/ once mum & i were

doing some exercises in our underpants & bras/
dad was sitting on the lounge observing/ he said
'have you creamed your pants yet?'/ mum's lips
pursed together & we went away & put our

clothes on/ mum said 'i don't like it when your
father watches what we do/ the police force has
made him perverted'/ i used to sit up on the
lounge watching tv with my legs open/ mum

kept saying 'shut your legs' whilst allowing my
brothers to open theirs/ she said 'wait until you
get your periods/ you won't be sitting like that
then'
