yar light eight fires around a campsite/
this'll keep 'em out/ king browns have a
territory of 2-3 square kilometres/ & if
yar sleepin' in the open/ every few nights
they'll come across yar path/
& if yar
move they'll bite yar/ lanterns aren't
good enough/ yar gotta light fires & if
yar wanta be doubly safe/ then piss in
between each one/ brown snakes are very
territorial/
& make sure yar know what's
on the other side of the tent flap before
yar open it/ ter reach for yar shoes or
the dunny roll/ & if yar see a snake lyin'
across the road/ don't run over it/
they'll curl up under yar axle/ & when
you stop so do they/
& if yar sleepin' out
on the ground/ watch out/ 'cause yar warmer
than the earth/ & the spiders & snakes
gotta have somethin' ter cuddle up ter at
night/ & they'll bite yar alright/
they can
outrun a man on horseback/ there's a story
about a fierce snake/ who attacked a
stockman near longreach/ the bloke saw
the snake comin' towards 'im through the
grass/ so 'e started galloping away/
& the taipan jumped twelve feet & struck
'im on the thigh/ then it wrapped itself
'round 'is leg & bit 'im again & again/ in
the 45 degree heat/ they say rigor mortis
set in before 'e left the stirrup/
& how
are yar dogs with snakes?/ if they get bitten/
put 'em in a running stream/ ter keep their
blood temperature down/ & keep 'em there for
three days/ a drover's cattle dog got bitten
by a snake near charleville/ & that's how
they kept him alive/
& watch the salt
water crocodiles/ a coupla tourists get
dragged from their tents every year/ &
crocs love dogs/ yar can't see 'em/ but they
watch yar movements just below the surface/
they move fast/ no one will see you again/
don't go down ter the stream ter collect
water from the same place twice/ don't
camp near rivers or creeks/ & don't drink
from the same enamel mug twice or the
crocs 'ill get yar
