HOBBITON: THE PERFECT CHILDHOOD
(I) The Shire

"And so life in The Shire goes on, very much as it has this past age, full of its own comings and goings. Change comes slowly, if at all, for things are made to endure in The Shire, passing from one generation to the next." - Bilbo Baggins (Walsh & Boyens)

Hobbiton: is where the world of light was born and lived,
as slowly as water moving beneath a stonework bridge.
A simple town, like dew on hay beneath a harvest moon.

They remain innocent beyond the hedge of disillusionment,
while the fog of forest and downs grows hunter and haunted,
they grow crops and family trees with innumerable branches,
sniff out mushrooms and vegetables from unusual distances.

They are not ugly, simply hairy, merry, squabbling, resilient
and of the Middle Earth, they gossip like a farming community.
Brandywine and Withywidle, BrandyBuck, Peregrin and Took,
followed by sparrows, old ponies and unarmed by butterflies.

They live for gifts. For sport they kill nothing that lived.
They are concerned with good dinners and birthday parties
and the well ordered business of living.
In that pleasant corner of the world, where common folk
know more than we give them credit for.
In tales, the yellow and green well tilled earth,
will remain as it is and stay as it was.
The land is rich and kindly, well mannered, old fashioned,
rarely the recipient of wider knowledge, accustomed to plenty.

They speak like this: 'And where might this Hobbiton be?
"The North_West of the Old World, East of the Sea."

"The Road goes ever on and on, down from the door where it began. Now far ahead the road has gone, And I must follow, if I can." - The Fellowship of the Ring (J.R.R. Tolkien)
