the cod is nearly extinct now/ they have been netted and
fished out/ boats setting up thousands of droppers, nets
and gelignite/ when the fish are biting we mainly catch
european carp/ the best time for cod is after the first big
frost in the winter/ late in the evening and mostly at night/
the small ones bite in the morning/ as soon as the sun
hits the water/ there should be restrictions on the number
of lines in the river/ i remember when a mate and myself
tried to get a fishing spot upstream from the 4 mile to
the 14 mile/ we couldn't even get one and we live here/
thousands of lines in the rivers both sides/ so we had to
come home/ and bought some fish'n'chips at the café/ we
will soon have to put traffic lights in for them/ or traffic
police to direct the tourists out on the culgoa/ down from
twin rivers i have seen scores of fishermen completely
netting the river off and taking thousands of dollars worth
of fish back to victoria in big freezer trucks/ they were
blowing the river up/ you can always tell when gelly is
used/ mussels and small fish come to the top and turtles
won't go back in the river/ the big fish sink to the
bottom and don't rise until about three days later/ when
they are half rotten/ waste of time/ an odd one will come
to the top if slightly stunned/ gelly is only good for blowing
themselves up/ the city's damming and netting the river/ until
it has become feeble/ then we blame the weather or the
sheep we introduced/ the fish inspectors could not touch
them/ they had a special licence to catch the fish/ the
people upstream were not very pleased about it/ they were
allowed to net in the small rivers/ but not in the barwon
or the darling/ i don't like netting or boats for fishing
