When We Travelled Together

Why do we become each other? Where does one journey begin and another one end? When you died I could not follow you. When you died you travelled inside me. When you died you were beside me. When you died you did not die. When you died I entered your body. When I lived you entered my dreams. When you died I howled like a wolf. When you died you cried like a baby. When you died you lived. When I lived I died. Your fur is my skin. My eye is your guide. We are psychic twins. When we became each other, we were connected at the heart. When you hurt your paw I bled inside. When I bled inside, you licked my wounds. When the world approached us we barked first, asked questions later. When we asked, we asked with our thoughts. Most often they did not answer. They could not hear the thoughts of us, or the conversations between the rocks and grasses. Now we must learn their language. How will we not abandon our own? Lost history. You buried the bones. I wept for the cows. You said you couldn't help it. I forgave you for being a dog. You loved me anyway. When we travelled together, two slow moons sliding into a deep mauve sky.
