CORAL HULL: THIRTY SIX HOURS
SILENT BEACH - I

There are many of me and I cannot give up any of them. Daniel turns towards the fatal mountain of the darkened mandarin west. He turned towards the anti-life society because that's where he had given all that had anything to do with his life. Now he seemed to stay forever embedded with all his Daniel's tossing and turning between them.

The mountain and the city surrounded him. But he didn't care. He was as empty as he was full. Never making up his mind. Never giving himself entirely to that part of himself that ached and bleed with the need to be filled. He felt like he had never lived the life of flesh and blood. He hung collapsed in the air like little more than the still air itself. A shadow motionless above his life that could have been.

He once had a dream that he had given away everything. Everything that had connected him to the anti-life society. Even his shoes, his underwear and his comb. Clever Daniel had convinced himself that he had paid the price for living by giving and giving. But the life-death-force wasn't satisfied with his trivial offerings. Nor the charitable ritualistic daily sacrifice of his own choosing. It wanted no less than his life.

Not until he delivered his body to the coiled worms and the quiet earth personally. Not until the pure water essence of Daniel had nourished the earth from the greatest height, would the mortal struggling cease. Not until then would the death-force in life move into another.

Daniel looked past the anti-life society and out to the distant sea. He began to walk there regretting the past and afraid of the future. Perhaps the gentle waves of the silent beach would catch and release him and he would be left in peace.
