                                                                                                              page-256 THE THIRSTY LAND

Hundreds and thousands of thirsty galahs
Search for water across the plain
Water holes are turned into hot spars
What was cattle, now bones remain

Flowers wilt, animals die
The old white gum trees bend
Far beneath the burning sky
The grounds life is at an end

Man is fighting against the drought
The costs are mounting higher and higher
To make things worse some brainless lout
Decides to light a fire

That sweeps a scorching carpet across the plain
Bringing death to all those near
Until blackening clouds filled with rain
Inform that the wet season is here.
