                                                                                                              page-241 station

crouching on a monstrous station
i hug my pack like an old companion
a dusk cat creeps in soft beside me
and the black dirt keeps me warm

as you drive away

all thoughts quiver touching
my soul like a peaceful wind
you stay within me drinking mist
in the form of gentle perfection

as you drive away

i return to my pack on the station
as frail as an alien petal
i reach back into the mist again
where you quietly drown

as you drive away

the night air is dry like paper
the dirt has lost its flavour
a cat beside me has wild bright
eyes and jutting ribs at angles

i kick my pack along the ground
as a train drags noiselessly in
