never over estimate the
sensitivity of trees/ trees
watch children being dumped
in the bush/ trees watch
coldly when the night is cold/
then the next day when it is
hot/ the trees will be warmer/
nourished from the rotting
body. Do trees contain the
rage of murdered children/
or the remorse of not
stepping forth to save them/

2.
i hug trees but are they
worth hugging/ do they like
my glad cheek on their
living bark/ or my thick
knotted arms around their
waists/ if i stayed hugging
a tree for one hundred
years/ would it reach slowly
down to return my hug/ or
would it strangle me to
death/ pressed quietly
against its dark green bark
