                                                                                                              page-147 LIFE AND DEATH

Life is to trudge along a bitter and twisted path of despair.
A lonely road to solitude.
A solemn rainforest haunted by epiphytes.
Ninety percent water.
An awkward struggle to reality.
A weary yawn of existence.
The soft dying sigh of extinction.
The stepping stone to death.
If death be such a transcending release,
To peace and sanctuary.
Why instinctive to evade it?
Why does a kookaburra catch the wriggling tail of a lizzard?
Continuation of the species?
Or something more.
So well equip for life, yet unable to face death
To hide in a fools paradise.
Stepping into opposing beliefs.
So well equip for death ... yet unable to face life?
A disappearing instinct.
A pitiful weakness.
Nothing makes sense.
People becoming fools to fear.
Fate? Destiny?
Carried by the tide of inevitability.
Some may find and easier route ...
Carried by the tide of inevitability.
Some may find an easier route ...
Why? Luck? Chance? Inequality? Justice?
A state of mind.
A prohibited area.
An untouched bossom.
A spiteful joker.
A misleading vision.
The same as a gutted fish on a desolate shore.
A beached whale, hollow lifeless eyes,
That appear to question in a painful desperation.
The whale is superior.
It's choice in suicide ... rotting upon the sand.
But we are dragged down in the backwash ...
Like a startled and frightened calf to a slaughter yard.
Panic at the smell of our own blood.
An unwanted trespasser on the threshold of truth.
A small particle of insignificant knowledge.
Not accepting the responsibility of our isolation.
Our own actions.
Have we been cheated then, by life itself?
Like a pouting child robbed of its pocket money.
Our thirst for wisdom as incurable,
As a murderer's thirst for blood.
Thus we linger like a gruesome reappearing wart.
An unfulfiled promise.
The unanswered question.
A wasted search.
Dramatic Irony?
