The kangaroo and the emu
Sat in the shade of a tree
At the zoo
The dirt was cool, the
Tree was shady, and
The sky was blue
They engaged in casual conversation
As any normal couple
At a tea party would do
Some small ruddy red-faced
Child threw a stone
And they lazily wondered who
The people strolled past
They strutted and stared
And gasped at the two
To them the strange sight
Of the casual couple
Was something quiet new
The couple didn't particularly care as
The people lingered, looked and laughed
At their cage in the zoo
Because they were the best of friends.
