i was just driving along/ minding my own
business/ you chased me/ you'd think that
you'd have something better to do/ lining
the pockets of your career with government
revenue/ i was speeding/ i will admit that/
the radar picked it up/ there you have my
confession/ i'm not as tough as i make out/ i
felt sick inside when i saw you following me/
the flash of lights/ the powerful machinery/
a moment ago i was laughing/ not intending to
be toppled/ now unbalanced so easily/ tipped
off the freeway/ rolled in my car/ so i put the
foot down/ there was no way i was going
down that one way street with you/ but you'd
been around/ i'd met my match/ your patrol
car better equipped for the chase & capture/ so
i went into a slow skid/ losing control of the
wheel/ the grey landscape flipped/ nothing was
ever the same/ you could call it an accident/ a
moment ago i had known where i was going/
had been the stranger in town/ observing the
couples from behind the tinted glass of my
windscreen/ couples like skin coloured brush
strokes/ swept across the victorian scrubland/
& erased with the wind/ i laughed out loud/
the smears of flesh pink on olive grey/ it was
so beautiful/ watching the landscape become
vulnerable/ without my participation/ i never
wanted the pain of love/ the sunset leaving me
the coward/ i hadn't realised/ i was so lonely/
until you caught up with me
