44. A Step By Step Way Out Of Poverty

1. Adopt an attitude of vanity:
Throw out the old black raincoat
& no matter how cold it gets,
feel the weather on your skin
until you buy a bright red one.
If you survive the winter
you won't need one.
If you don't, it doesn't matter.

2. Starve at the hairdressers:
Ring the Christians for some money,
then get a hair cut & go hungry.
Sometimes a new style is better,
than food that is of poor quality.

3. Give away your last dollar:
I gave away my last dollar to charity.
Now, I realise that I was delusional at the time.
Hours later I was hungry, I waited in line for food coupons,
at the same charity that I had given the $1.00 to.
It's a wonder I survived. But it's exactly how I did.
A bit of delusion & faith is good for the spirit.
This act of goodwill had empowered me,
even if it was a pointless, naive & stupid act
in this society, it was a still a way of surviving.
For me it's all in the attitude.
There is a step by step way out of poverty.

3. Get angry at others:
There is the pain of seeing your situation in order to leave it.
This is really where I'm from.
It's when you start to know better from not knowing any better.
That is when the amazing pain sets in,
lighting up your body like a globe, reddening your face,
as your anger rises off your skin like steam,
the first person, the one that you blame, is the one that you hate,
yourself. Later you know better, you know who deserves it more.
