DAYLIGHT AND GOD'S LIGHT

This daylight poetry is fading
since it's not as it seems ...
Your words and their old lies
filled me with lyrebird dreams.
By waterfalls and gullies
I slipped and wept by the rocks,
unlearning these follies
and the romance of verse,
where I was stalked by devils
that shrieked in the night
and the beauty of starlight
could not make it all right.
When dying nature is glorified
rather than the God of lights,
'tis then that the deception
of ancestoral spirits unfolds.
The waving Coolibah branches,
the green men in the leaves,
the speaking of boulders,
the slow river that 'sees',
the calling of dreamtime gods,
that want to lure me to sleep
and to inspire my thinking,
beneath mountain and creek.
Without the living Word of God,
I was lost in illusion.
Without Christ's holy direction,
I lived in confusion.
I believed in the swagman,
the bush and the pen,
but in learning the truth,
I will not wander again ...
The outback stars were all created
and shine because of God's glory.
I prefer the hard paths of disciples,
who chose truth, over these stories.
Though the night is now darker,
without the songs of the bush,
my love affair with this energy
is now put to rest, and in faith,
I will set my awakening spirit
on glories unnumbered, unseen
and not upon some perishing dream.
