CORAL HULL: THE NORTH WOODS
HYPOTHERMIA

I like the snow in the shade because its bright, luminous, the lake off to the left is pretty much ice covered, the road is icy in the shade, where the sun hasn't reached, sunset rocks rise up through the snow, capped with white as if they grew into this position, we are strong as we reach up into our own faith, the snow coated trees look better in the shade, it's like a black and white photo, through the snow crusted valley the warmer stream to the right is golden, whereas the one icing up over to the left is aqua blue, the meltwaters, the long drift forwards begins, I am exposed, the flesh dies before my mind, its when you come back to life there is pain, like a river breaking through stones, underneath your skin, toes, fingers, arms, legs, nose, it feels like ice rubbed directly against the face, tingling red as the blood enters, rushes back in through the vessels, like snow rushes back down through the valley like an avalanche, death from hypothermia, the cleansing power of the snow, its different from the rain, how do you want to go to sleep?, in the snow, the depth of white, the silent cloud covering the landscape, the gentle powder, this so soft snow to the lips and neck, you curl up inside the wind insulator, if they sniff you out, if they bring you back, your skin will flood with red, in front of the fire, it will hurt as the blood flushes the muscles, pain like you've never known, your body coming back to life, you looked so calm, so white, induced into your longest hibernation, firstly the body cools on the outside to protect the essential organs, so that the cavity of the heart and lungs don't freeze, parts of you are slowly sacrificed, to turn white and drop off with not a scrap of pain left in them, it was so easy to fall asleep without pain, i worry for you, your sense of belonging to harsh climates.
