CORAL HULL: MERMAID: WOMAN ON THE EDGE OF THE SEA
The Enchanted Archipelago

A man journeys upon the oceans and enters the woods of an enchanted island.

Who can tell where the portals of the other worlds lay, for you have journeyed far.
You have drifted from the known islands of hope, into the enchanted archipelago,
Into lands that were sometimes visible and sometimes not, from the masts of longing.
Do not be disheartened when the ocean paths turn icy and the fog lays thick
Upon the stern and rains beat down upon your back, and your eyes are lost in grief.
Nor that your lonely night watch terrors call forth the attention of creatures,
For fear licks at your back as you journey forever inwards beyond the known world.
Do not be afraid, for they are only sunbirds that carry the rainbows in their eyes,
Heralds to your safe return. Do not be afraid when you know the whale's song.
For they are the spirited mountain peaks who have been engulfed by the oceans,
you drown in, and the wistful young mermaidens will be calling among their kind,
Giving a human name to the voices arising from the waves. There is your history,
In the mouths of shells, winds and foame. You will go under as they sing you away.
We are only the dreamscapes of your mind, swiftly appeared and as swiftly departed.
You have entered the golden-wooded isles, between the worlds. It's name is yours.
Your footsteps are the journeys of tides upon the beach. You enter the deepest forest.
Unbroken, even upon the breaking of the land. The deer path has shed its old secrets.
Wandering into a clearing, where the way was lost, you crossed a border you did not see,
Into a land and time you did not know, tied to an enchantment, you were returned to us.
You have come home, but these greetings will not be without their sacrifices.
To find yourself on an unknown shore, you have forsaken old knowledge for paradise.
