BOROMIR'S DEATH
(on the conversation between Aragorn's and Boromir upon his death at Amon Hen)

"Be at peace! Minas Tirith shall not fail!" Boromir smiled, but did not speak again. (J.R.R. Tolkien)

The horn of Gondor!
Boromir!

*

Strong Boromir_____the arrow into
your chest______1st arrow. Ugh!!
while you ran__to protect them!
Silence ______you leg is crippled.
Silence _____your broken elbow.
2nd arrow ____your manhood drops.
3rd arrow_____blood in your throat
unevenly gurgles ____your sweat,
your eye ____your blue hymn to
silence ____Boromir ____Fight!
Merry! Pippin! ____3 new arrows
buried in your chest, your shoulder.
Hear us cry for you now, Boromir
as you kneel ____into that silence.

*

Hard lesson,
brave Boromir, Prince of Gondor,

protector and defender of children and kingdoms -
propped up against the tree of arrows and sorrows.

You have done the day well.
The very land cries out with your fading.

The pale hand of light is coming!
All countries are now here to receive you.

The emerald trees are awash with honour
and the blood of Boromir, the brave one.

*

You lost the fight,
But you die a hero,
Prince of Gondor.

*

Boromir, those arrows did not bring you down -
It was an unforgiving world that dug your grave.

One mistake and you are ended.
The world is harsh, my friend ---
and unforgiving.

Poor Boromir. I have wept for you.

*

The fighting Uraki all passed you by
as you kneeled and died.
Your insignificance of no consequence.

You left us --- as if in prayer.
You entered the peace of god.
I followed you there, in love.

*

The orc riders slowly pass your silence.
You loved the earth just like we all did.
But you lined it with jewels and honor.

Still, you taught us how to fight
as the hard world took you out.

You both desired and ruined it all,
with the guts of a man not a god,
in the world that did not love you.

Poor brave Boromir,
with the heart of gold --- the flawed man.
Hard lesson to learn.

This world is merciless to the weak.
One mistake and you were gone.

*

There was a reason, Boromir.
I don't know what it is as yet.

I will whisper to you when I know
and when I learn how to pray
and to forgive you your weakness
and the weakness of your killers
and my own inherent weakness.

Oh, this weight of humanity
like so many precious stones.

*

You fought for your beliefs
and were reduced to memory.

Yet you speak to this country
as though it were your poetry.

*

You will not see the flags of Gondor rise again.
You looked into my eyes in Lothlorien.
and said, "have you ever seen it, Aragorn?

Have you ever? ...

Banners caught high in the morning breeze ---

Have you ever been called home
to the shrill sound of silver horns?

The white towers of Icthalion shining?
Will you take me there inside your heart?

For I will die before this light of day
has passed. I will be fallen
into silence."

*

As I am the witness to your tragedy -
You are forgiven, Boromir.
You are not forgotten -----
You are forgiven by us all.
It's through you we forgive ourselves
and those who work against our lives.

*

"Never say we are defeated, Aragorn.

Say my Captain!!

We will ride into Gondor together and
the flames will be ribbons and galands!

Say my Captain!!

The flags of victory are flying in Gondor
as we speak --

And we will ride into Gondor together,
as kings today --

Have you ever?

Have you ever been called home?"

*

My dear friend, Boromir --
Side by side, you die - I live
You live - I die, side by side.
My dear friend, Aragorn --

*

"The enemy is going to have this victory
They depart as my life grows ever silent."

*

Prince of Gondor!!! ----------
-- your enemies outlive you.
Yet you are victorious, today.

It may not be obvious now,
but there is a greater picture.

For who will not come
to ease your pain
is within you now.

Upon your fallen____sword
Rests our love___and pity
The 1st arrow_____the 3rd
Upon your fallen ____hope.

*

Boromir, listen to me --------

As long as I have you inside my heart
and in my kingdom -- we will remain!

We will not admit defeat.

"I swear my allegience to Gondor!
I swear to you,
I will not let the white city fall!"

*

They take everything now -
They pass by your life
which has gone to its knees.

But you will not kneel for long.
You fight until the rotten end,
All you have left is within you.
Yet only your efforts will remain.

You are gone before the fighting ends.

You are a Prince of Gondor!
You are leaving -
But you will not go easily.

Boromir, do you feel it coming?
as still as the death that grips on.

Embrace it, slowly
and in acute silence.

It wants to dance in your heart.
It wants to be done
with you.

*

"It is over

Aragorn."

"No, Boromir.

I swear to you -
Our people will not fail.
I will not let the white city fall."

*

Boromir, you fought bravely
yet the sun set on your life.

The trees bow to the sorrow of arrows,
But the Ethir Anduin will take you home.

Stay still.
Stay still.

We are the fate of Middle Earth.
It is as yet, undecided.
Our hope has not departed here.

Stay still.
I am with you now.
You are within us all.

*

"Aragorn,

I will not return!

So love me now!

I would have followed you --

My Brother ... My Captain ...

My King!"

*

Be at peace
Son of Gondor.

I kiss your forehead.
Light kisses you there.

"Oh, Boromir! From the high walls westward I looked afar. But you came not from the empty lands where no men are." - (J.R.R. Tolkien)
