CORAL HULL: HOLY CITY
The Canal Contemplations

7.

The social worker contemplates how the system fails the lost children:

They are oily like rats slipping away.
Many are lost beneath trains,
voices trailing off along the bridges.

While they are equipped to handle dark,
we have designed progressively larger
collecting areas - that shine and attract.

But we feed them no substance
It's all warmth and dim light.
They shun any guidance we offer.

We detect the harmed psyches
by using even larger nets,
to collect the cold sewerage
beyond the pollution of lights.

We reach into the drains with telescopes,
but they are forever distant from us.
These 'young bright' form unusually rapidly.
