CORAL HULL: HOW DO DETECTIVES MAKE LOVE?
THE TAN MOTH

the moth was vibrating
on the ground with a
wasp attached to its
rear end the wings of
the moth were vibrating
a thousand beats a
second its body sending
out tiny ripples
attached to its rear
end the wasp was also
vibrating eating the
moth alive whilst the
moth allowed its guts
to be eaten the vibrations
of the moth did not
concern the wasp who
went on eating & all
the moth could do was
vibrate its suffering
too minute for me to
detect but in an old
insect society observing
calmly were black ants
who received these
vibrations on the dark
ends of their antennas
ants who began moving
into action towards the
wasp which they thought
might be injured & the
moth vibrating which
drew them towards its
rear end like fish blood
draws a fisherman well
counsellor i put an end
to that little scene i
squashed the vibrations
beneath my black shoe
the suffering moth was
crushed out like a butt
& the healthy wasp
mashed into the pulp
of its chewing counsellor
i silenced the suffering
you would have too if
the tan moth had been
your half-eaten dog or
your child half-eaten
so i used my foot to
silence the suffering
