XI. THE GOAT ABATTOIR
3. The Killing Box
It takes a certain type of man to be in the outback killing box.
Dad said, "I arrested one of 'em once, a bloke down in Ryde
who killed 'is wife.
'e just cracked up in court & said,
'She forgot to put milk in my coffee
so I cut her throat.
I had a few drinks in me, but it was no problem at all.
Just like cutting a sheep's throat.'"
It takes a certain type of man,
& I wouldn't like to wake up next to him.
That's if I woke up at all.
When will it end?
I said, "The manager wouldn't take me into the killing box."
Dad said, "No, you don't take women & children there."
When will it end?
When the land shuts down, the abattoir will shut down
& the killing box men, can come home to the world. |
